Wood Drying Cycle Estimate V1

Enter wood species, dimensions and moisture levels to tabulate time–moisture estimates from matching reference-batch data.

← Back to tools

Interpolated estimate from reference-batch data, not a kiln control schedule. Time cannot be calculated without suitable data. No temperature/RH settings or quality/HT certification.

1. Wood and targets

Choose a suggestion or enter another species. Specify the species/variety when known; the name selects no automatic drying coefficient.

Dimensions identify the specification that must match the reference batch. V1 does not automatically scale time for thickness, width or species.

w is wood moisture on an oven-dry mass basis, not air RH. Wood MC can exceed 100%. The table interval only divides the output; it is not a prescribed fan-reversal or sampling interval.

2. Reference-batch measurements

Elapsed time (hours)Measured wood moisture w (%)Remove

Enter at least 2 points with strictly increasing time and non-increasing MC; flat segments are allowed. Data must cover initial through target moisture; no extrapolation. Review rising measurements instead of automatically smoothing them.

Update after an actual cycle

Enter elapsed hours from the current starting point and measured MC. Each reading is kept and re-anchors the remaining estimate. Reading times must increase. Use “Remove last reading” to correct an entry.

V1 update: re-anchor at the latest measured MC and retain the reference-curve shape for the remaining estimate. No automatic rate learning or temperature/RH changes. Changing species, dimensions, initial MC or reference data clears the old reading history. Changing the target or table interval preserves it.

Output t=0 begins at the entered initial MC. Reaching the target threshold does not establish completion of equalization, conditioning, cooling or acceptance for delivery.

Method and scope

V1 method: piecewise linear interpolation between measured points. Threshold time is the first reference-curve crossing. No species/dimension scaling or statistical confidence interval.
